I have joined IIM-shillong on 2nd july. Though areawise the campus is small, it has all the necessary and more importantly TECH-SAVVY facilities. Also, the seniors have been very helpful till now (!!). There was a 2 week induction program to bring students from diversified backgrounds to an almost same platform followed by a 1 week seminar on "Leading and Managing for Sustainability".
Regarding the climate, as it is a hill station, it is very cold. The highlight in the hostel room is that there is no fan!!! At first I thought they would fit it in a week or so but to my suprise I was told that most houses here in shillong dont have fan...The reason being that Maximun temperature here will be 25 degrees Centrigrade. At present everyone of us have bought quills (rajai). So, Now one can understand about the climate here !!! Also Cherrapunji, the second wettest place on earth is just 80KM away from our place. So everyone has to carry umbrella as there is no predictive model (Using Predictive Analytics!!) built for forecating the next occurence of rain yet :) :). Just imagine - everyone of us went to inaugural function in business suits with an umbrella in hand !!!!! I feel that my body went through an ANNEALING process - substantial heating in chennai for 1.5 years and then slow cooling here in shillong :)
On one saturday, we had a small suprise party from seniors - Music night (for 1.5 hours) where all of us danced. I too danced a bit though I dont know anything :) :). My friends told me that dance, especially in such parties, is very simple. They asked me to just replicate the actions as though I'm really doing them - "Imagine myself on a terrace and flying a kite" or "Imagine myself cleaning the floor with a broomstick" or atleast "Just keep on jumping in air with hands raised in air" etc. These, besides my "teen maar" step, kept me busy for more than an hour on the dance floor.
